About Northwest Nordic Studios
Creating spaces for restoration, creativity, belonging and meaningful living.
Fatherhood Changed the Questions I Ask
Becoming a father changed how I think about how to foster a life of quality and wellbeing.
More than what I want to achieve, I found myself asking what kind of life I hope to create for my son.
One grounded in family, community, meaningful work, and a deep connection to the natural world.
A life of quality moments, fully present and joyful.
That search eventually became Northwest Nordic Studios.
Natural Enchantment
We believe some of life’s most meaningful moments happen when in harmony with the natural world.
Among trees.
Slowing down to bask in golden hour.
A family afternoon picnic.
We call this natural enchantment.
Our work exists to create more room for these moments.
The Founder
Meet Ian
Becoming a father changed the questions I ask.
More than what I want to achieve, I’ve found myself asking what kind of life I hope to create for my son. What values, influences, and environments will shape the person he becomes?
My answer keeps leading me back to the same things: family, community, meaningful work, and a deep connection to the natural world.
I want him to grow up with a sense of natural enchantment—to know himself not as separate from nature, but as part of it. To spend time among trees and weather, around tables and campfires, making things with his hands, discovering wonder in the real world. To develop the freedom to think for himself, the capacity to love and be loved, and the confidence to live a fully human life.
In an age increasingly defined by compulsive distraction, insatiable consumption, and artificial experiences, these values feel more important than ever.
Northwest Nordic Studios is an expression of that belief.
Inspired by Nordic design and the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, we create spaces that foster restoration, creativity, belonging, and a deeper connection to what matters.
Because space matters—not simply as shelter, but as the setting for a life well lived.
Ian Abbott is a production designer, builder, writer, and father living in the forests of the Pacific Northwest.
What We Believe
-
We believe in fostering belonging on all levels: to the present moment, to a loving community, to the natural world.
-
Space is the canvas for life. The quality of the space influences the quality of your life.
-
“If you do something, do it well.” “We strive for perfection and settle for excellence.” In a world of simulations and appearances—genuine authenticity in the physical world matters.
-
No veneers, synthetic or artificial materials. Genuine natural materials are the rule. Your nervous system and your psyche will thank you.
-
Create space for what matters.
-
Spaces should be designed for living not merely admiration.
-
Wonder is all around us if we make room for it.
